Two years ago I had a friend repaint my 91 Nighthawk. I had the paint
color matched at a reputable local body shop. I found out that we had
to apply metalic silver paint prior to the burgandy red color to get
the same effect as the original paint. It turned out great with the
exception of a large area on top of the gas tank where it seemed to
have fainted to a orangy like color and the mark was more visible
after a couple of weeks. I left it like that until recently and
brought my tank back to my friend for him to repaint it. He sanded it
all down, applied primer, applied the metalic silver paint and then
applied the burgandy red only for the paint, both metalic silver and
burgandy red, to appear to no longer adhere to the primer. It didn't
chip or flake off but rather seemed to just have lost its adherance to
the primer and just eased downward a bit on the sides and on top. I'm
no painter so I have no clue as to what he did wrong(if the case). He
used paint left over from 2 years ago which I had paid quite a bit
for. Any ideas as to the cause and how to prevent it from happening
again? Thanks!

Melissa
