Kyle, Yes, a bit more sun here out on the Canterbury plains than in Seattle. The weather varies a lot in New Zealand, depending on where you are. We've got everything from rainy Seattle to humidity like along the east coast.

Might not work the best in Western Washington, but I'm assuming NZ gets more sun? -Kyle On Wed, Dec 9, 2009 at 10:03 AM, Dennis <[email protected]> wrote: All, Thanks for the several comments on my battery issues down here. Much appreciated. All in all, I think I've probably done the right thing to simply buy a new battery at this point. And I'd have done better to have disconnected it when I left for the U.S. last time rather than leaving it connected while stored. Some folks think battery minders are a good idea while others don't. I'm not sure they are an option for me. I'd need a place to store the bike where I have constant access to power and that's not the case where I am. Whoo-ee. Some things can be expensive down here. The folks at the motorcycle shop in New Brighton here quoted me $175 to buy and install a battery minder. And Harbor Freight sells them for under $10 in the U.S? Ouch. But, a whole lotta stuff is high priced here. Sounds like I'll buy a 'minder' next time I'm in the U.S. and carry it back down here as insurance. Sorry to tell all of you up in the northern half, that summer is coming on here. Doesn't get dark now till nearly 9:30 in the evening. My wife told me yesterday, that it 13F last night and dropping in Western Washington where she is. When I was in New Brighton yesterday (a costal town just by Christchurch where the motorcycle shop is), I had to kill an hour while they tried to put a charge on my battery so I walked down to the pier and had a look around. You can stand there and look north up the coast of the South Island and you can see the land clear a bell for as far as it goes - until it drops below the horizon. In general, I think people are poorer down here and things are more expensive but, lordy, they do live in a paradise. If you ever get a chance to come down and ride here, you should jump at it.
