.Springs can be stretched/extended by bending them in a curve and sticking
spacers - like a washer - between the coils on the outside of the curve. Then
bend them the other way and add spacers to the other side. Depending on the
thickness of the spacers and the number of coils, considerable extension can be
achieved. Then hook the extended spring in place and move the apparatus to
stretch the spring, and be ready to pick up a lot of spacers. I have used it
on springs considerably stronger than the center stand.

Working with that spring can be a real biacch!!! Here's what you do... find
yourself some really strong nylon twine and make a loop in it that will
cover the distance (and then some) of where the spring originally sits once
connected to the centerstand and where you need to stretch it to mount it to
the frame. Have a cylindrical piece of wood or any other material to use as
a puller ( large dowel, metal bar, or even short piece of broom handle) and
loop the twine around the end of the spring and then loop it around the
puller. Keep the twine loop in the middle of the puller. Situate yourself
behind the rear wheel and use both hands to bring bring back the puller
mechanism to stretch the spring and nick it into place. It works like a
charm. No need to mess with pliers or expensive "spring pullers" advertised
on-line. You can do this solo but a partner might help as well. Barge

I just uploaded a file titled Center_Stand_installation-03-750.jpg to
the group 'Files' area. This is a scanned image of the one-page
instructions Honda shipped with the new Center Stand I bought for my
'03 750 a few years back. They're not the most thorough instructions
I've ever read, but better than nothing. If you need additional
instructions, I can upload pictures of how mine is installed.
