Hey guys, I'll start with a little introduction. I'm Jonathan, 24 years old and located in the Netherlands. I got my drivers license in February and bought my first motorcycle a few weeks ago. It's a CBX650E Nighthawk from '83 with 31.000 miles. I don't have much experience in vehicle maintenance but hope to figure it all out and do the maintenance and repairs myself for as much as possible.
Now the first things popped up and because it's a sunny day I was trying to fix it. My brake light doesn't work, I suppose it's just a matter of replacing the lightbulb as it doesn't work with using both my front and rear brake (which excludes the sensors) and the horn and turnlights do work (which excludes the fuse). Now I was trying to open the casing of my rear lights, but couldn't find an easy way to do that. Before I start to do unnecessary work I was wondering if the only way to do that really is to remove the rear fender (means I have to disconnect the turnlights first)? Is there someone who did this before who can explain how the casing is supposed to be opened? Another thing is the speedometer which stopped working. I bought a new cable but while I was replacing it I thought I should try the old one by attaching an electric screwdriver to the bottom end. When I do that the meter does work so the old cable is fine. Somehow the screwdriver- like plug at the front wheel seems to be not spinning. I didn't find a good way to check that yet, the only way I did was by moving the bike a few feet and I found out the driver-plug always appears to be in the exact same position. Any thoughts on fixing this or how to better determine the problem? Since I already bought a new cable I might replace the old one anyway, maybe it connects better tot the driver- plug. Of course I can always go to a dealer, but that costs me and takes away the fun :-) Thanks for any tips and advice and I'll post some pictures as soon as the battery of my camera is charged!
