I have put new handlebars on my 83' 650. Basically, they are about six inches higher and nine inches farther back and yes, the throttle cables were fine as were the choke cables. I added about two inches to the wiring--a wire at a time. I used those squeeze fasteners, but would solder if I did it again. I replaced both brake and clutch hoses. These can be bought at any hose supply relatively cheaply. Motorcycle stores really bump up the price. It was not a huge job and I did it in an afternoon after I had assembled all my parts. It really changed the way I ride. No more neck aches.
