I can't imagine doing a trip around the USA (or how some folks do these world-wide tours). I live in Michigan and just did a motorcycle camping trip up Lake Michigan, across the state, and down Lake Huron. A total of about 900 miles in 5 days, averaging 180 - 190 miles a day (rain about half the time). Stayed at state campgrounds along the way, so between riding and setting up camp every day, I didn't get as much time as I'd like to stop and smell the roses, so to speak. If I had it to do it over again, I'd take more time to do the same distance.
Seems like a trip around the country, the world, etc., there'd be a lot of pressure to keep moving (anyone who's seen the Long Way Down or Long Way Round videos, you'll recall that issue induces a lot of stress). My next trip will be down to Ohio, Pennsylvania, W. Virginia, but I'll budget more time.
