*This past Saturday we had a GORGEOUS day (weather-wise) so 8 of us on 7 bikes decided to take a ride up into the Idaho mountains. Our starting point was Ontario, Oregon and our first destination was Crouch/Garden Valley, Idaho. Here's a link to our ride on a Google Map<http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Ontario,+OR&daddr=NW+16th+St+to:Emmett,+ID+to:Horseshoe+Bend,+ID+to:Crouch,+ID+to:Boise,+ID+to:Eagle,+ID+to:Star,+ID+to:Middleton,+ID+to:Ontario,+OR&hl=en&geocode=FbjKnwIdhkkH-SlhZ8uqq4-vVDHFV5TAbv6xQg%3BFRrGnwIdsuMH-Q%3BFdp0nQIdm1wO-Sk35KabjgmvVDFVqe3nM_w_WA%3BFXQVngId8fUS-Sk1JeqP2xCvVDH9W40XSgQW-A%3BFeQkoQIddmwW-SlpqttNQkivVDEQI7RmI2oMBw%3BFdd5mQIdfMIS-SmdtEfpcvGuVDGbnWc2m5hbmg%3BFVK9mgIdIpQQ-Snb_CmQoqqvVDE6Srtu_0_QOg%3BFUuwmgIdaXMO-Sl92IdUWayvVDHMlIjJ-ItS1Q%3BFczpmgIdmIQM-SkNu6HKjbavVDHogDsmOq6_tA%3B&mra=ls&via=1&sll=43.969098,-116.860199&sspn=0.257471,0.676346&ie=UTF8&ll=43.884037,-116.463318&spn=0.515677,1.352692&z=10> . * * * *I started off the day by not being able to get my bike to turn over. [?] It had been starting slower lately so I figured my battery was about to give up. I jumped it from my pickup (Note: if you ever do this make sure the engine **on the car you're jumping from** is NOT running) and it fired right up. We stopped for fuel in Emmett, Idaho and while my bike started, I could tell the battery wasn't taking a charge like it should. We made our way up farther into the Idaho mountains reaching our destination of the little mountain town of Crouch in the Garden Valley area around 11am. After hanging out for a bit and getting a snack, everyone decided they wanted to ride back down the hill into Boise, Idaho and get lunch there. (Red Robin was calling.) My bike was a little stronger firing up this time but still not normal. * * * *We decided before we left Crouch that when we reached Boise we would pop into a Honda dealership and check prices on a new battery for my GL1100. Yikes! They wanted $126 before taxes! Nothing doing. We scooted to another cycle parts store and I settled for a new battery for $75.00. (I know...you never get the best deals when you buy on the road.) But I took the opportunity to also get something I've always wanted: a battery tender. (I have a full battery charger at home, but I wanted something that would lightly trickle-charge my battery when I wasn't riding and even throughout the Winter.) It seems to work great!* * * *All in all our ride was just over 185 miles (just a quick jaunt) but the incredibly beautiful day made it that much nicer to be out. I was also pleased that my 16 year old daughter (who is a very busy lady) actually ASKED to come along on the ride. Always nice riding with the kids. (Besides, my bike is big enough to not even feel a passenger of her size. Sometimes I had to look in my mirrors to make sure she was still there!) [?]* * * *We were definitely an odd-looking group. 5 crotch rockets, one dual-sport and my GL1100. (Wow! Not a v-twin in the group!! Imagine that!)* * * *Paul *
