I saw a NH650 in a salvage yard once, guy had made his own heel/toe shifter out of chrome wrenches. He bent it the way he wanted it, welded it to the shifter, and away he went. He did the same thing on the other side with the brake pedal. Did I mention he also painted the poor bike GOLD? and made a custom seat out of what looked like alligator skin stretched over a riding lawnmower seat?
