My way to make it easy (easier, at least) is to use a drill bit that fits tightly in the rubber hole to chamfer the hole in the metal stem and "taper" the opening to get rid of the square mouthed opening. Then, and this will ease it the most, don't attempt to push the three wires through. Instead, tie a length of strong small diameter cord to the end of the connectors, by passing it through the end of the connector and tying it to the wire/connector. Then pull one wire through at a time. The last will be the most difficult, because the opening is reduced by the other wires, but it goes pretty easily. If it hits, just use the cord and wire to pull it back and forth until it goes. I have had good luck - and saved lots of $$ - with the JCWhitney stays. I actually bought some for my 550 and ordered some that were made for a 650. Got 'em to work with very little hassle. I'm wondering if honda made any other moto's that use the same stays? This will help me broaden my search for some affordable OEM's and I won't have to retrofit the aftermarkets which after reading several reviews, sound like very low quality. Any insight would be much appreciated. Sincerely, A-Train Rick Wilson <[email protected]> Sep 24 11:55PM -0700 ^ Thank you for the help on the signal stems. Everyone on this site has been a big help to me getting my '85 650 in shape again. Do you know where I can get instructions or a manual on how to rebuild the carburetors? I let my 650 sit too long and it is running rough. I tried gas additives/treatments etc. Should I be using a higher grade gas? I have been using "middle of the road" "Gene Henry" <[email protected]> Sep 25 04:24AM -0500 ^ Great source of information is on Paul's Nighthawk Info Page(s): http://www.hondanighthawks.net/repair.htm Carb info is about half-way down the page. http://www.hondanighthawks.net/carbhelp.htm Have you heard us go on about the miraculous "Sea Foam"? Good with vodka, to clean your shorts (skid marks - be sure to rinse out well)!, kills ants and rodents, and, oh yeah, great for getting the gunk out of fuel systems. General opinion is that if Seafoam doesn't get it, then a carb removal and cleaning the passages is in your (immediate) future. My opinion, especially for 25 year old bikes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" As in don't disturb any more than necessary, unless you're a purist! (With lots of money!) Helm is a great source for manuals including copies of the original Owners Manual, Honda Repair Manuals, etc. http://www.helminc.com/helm/search_service_owner.asp?Style=helm&class%5F2=AHC Hope you have a good go with the repairs. A good tip for removing the carbs is to loosen the air cleaner mounting, slide it to the rear as much as possible and use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the rubber/plastic connection between the air cleaner and carbs. Most helpful for reassembly. I'd fly to Japan and buy one of the new CB750's and ship it home. It would probably cost more than $10,000 total but worth it. If not that I'd take a long hard look at the new Honda Fury - I'd be a little short but with the prices of bikes crashing I think you could find a Fury for $10,000 even from a dealership.
