~$350 for the skeleton of a 4x8 trailer. About $100 in wood and an afternoon with a friend and I ended up with a pretty nice utility trailer. I welded on some stake pockets for 2x4's and some D-rings for ratchet straps. *(if you don't/can't weld, you likely know someone who does or could get it done for cheap, like in the $50 range) I've used the trailer to haul my NH from Detroit to Grand Rapids, MI, then a few years later over to Milwaukee where I'm at now. I've also moved all my belongings between apartments in college and finally from Grand Rapids, MI over to WI (Right through Chicago). The trailer should have a few thousand miles by now, all towed by me in my Pontiac Firebird :). I would say I have less than $500 invested and have a brand new, nice trailer. It pulls the NH like a dream. The floor fits a 4x8 sheet of plywood with about 1/4" extra per side. The tounge is held on my two large bolts, and although I haven't needed to yet, one could pull a bolt and tilt the trailer up for easy loading. It isn't too hard to find a spot in the yard and use a small ramp to get the bike on, though. Only downsides - the fenders have started to rust and come loose so I'll have to re-weld them soon (yes, a significant downside, but I think that people using them as steps contributed to this problem). Also, the box sides that we put on can be a little tough to remove by one person, but i can do it in about 15 minutes by myself. the trailer floor flexes when you walk to the corners and binds a little on the 2x4's. I'll call that a design flaw on both my part and the manufacturer's since my stake pockets didn't end up lining up with the sides we built. With two people, it pops right off. You could go with their other options such as the model that already has a floor (mesh steel aka 'expanded steel'), a ramp, and the 'sides' that consist of the 2x2 angle steel about a foot off the trailer floor. It should be enough to haul both your bikes (but the floor is open to water splashing, dirt, etc, and is only 4x7 inside ALSO - That trailer-in-a-bag kit... I wouldn't bother... for $1300, you could get an awesome trailer that has way more usefulness (that is what I'm stressing here). Yeah, it folds down, but there is really no use for that $1300 gizmo than for the few times you need to trailer the bike. For $1300, pay me to drive to where ever you are with my trailer and move your bike for you.
