I have one with that problem (blue '84 parts bike), but never had to
repair one myself. I'm told it's a big job, as you have to pull the
engine, and "split the case" to get to the parts that have failed. I
also just heard (yesterday) from a guy who had the same problem, and
he said it was a broken weld on a part that was accessible from the
cover on the (left?) side of the engine. He said he took the part out,
and had it welded, and it's been OK since then.
