(I could be wrong on that last part) I have never had to put my NH on a trickle charger though - I'm lucky to have a good charging system. -Joey On Tue, Mar 15, 2011 at 12:20 AM, [email protected] -- -Joey Kelley JoeyKelley.com - My Life Online JoeyFixesComputers.com - Its What I Do! JoeyKelleyPhoto.com - Photographing Today, For Tomorrow Hondo 60 <[email protected]> Mar 15 09:19PM -0700 ^ Jay, use the battery tender all you want with the caps on! The battery will vent out of the vent tube. A couple of things to remember though is once the battery tender indicates the battery is charged, remove from the tender, don't leave it hooked up all the time because if the tender fails it can fry the battery and maybe more! or in time the acid may become low still frying the battery. Always keep an eye on the acid level, my 91 750 needs topped off about once a year, evaperation, charging ect. will use up a little, and always top off only with distilled water, and all will be well! Everybody out there enjoy the upcomming season. Hondo. Topic: More Springtime prep... Paul <[email protected]> Mar 15 07:58PM -0600 ^ *Prep continues on the bike.* * * *Topped off the brake fluid today, drained the cooling system and am preparing to replace the coolant just as soon as it stops raining. I need to run the engine while topping off the reservoir, and to do that I have to get the bike OUTSIDE of the garage. If I run it too close to the garage door the fumes get sucked back into our furnace and the whole house smells VERY bad which my family doesn't appreciate.* * * *But I am VERY close to being ready to ride! :)* * * *Paul * -- * Paul LeBoutillier <http://www.facebook.com/paul.lebout> <http://paul-on-life.blogspot.com/> * * * Topic: manometer Chris Lopez <[email protected]> Mar 15 09:38AM -0400 ^ Thanks for adding that link on how to make one. Sorry I can't find the email so who ever posted it thanks a lot. thanks Javier for the video on your bike when it came to the question on white smoke. But before I go to get the things I need to make the manometer does anyone know exactly were on the carb. would I hook it up ? I have a 83 CB750SC and the Haynes book doesn't really show me were. "Gene Henry" <[email protected]> Mar 15 03:39PM -0500 ^ I tried to build one of these using oil as a fluid. My thoughts were it wouldn't damage anything if sucked into the engine, and the thicker viscosity would help dampen the oscillations. (Guess I should have used Seafoam, and got a tune-up/clean if it got sucked in!) I could not get the oscillations to dampen out to a usable level. One of the plans I saw said to use aquarium size tubing and metering valves. That might have worked. The plans I used called for a u-tube manometer that had each end of the tube hooked up to different cylinders. Cylinder 2 would be used as a base measurement, paired first with Cylinder 1, then Cylinder 3, then Cylinder 4. I since got a quad set of dial types with restrictors and valve type metering valves. I have not used it yet, but it certainly looks more usable. ----- Original Message ----- From: Javier Garcia To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, March 15, 2011 9:47 AM Subject: Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] manometer Hey Chris, please let us know how it goes with building the manometer and all that. James O'Gorman <[email protected]> Mar 15 08:45PM -0500 ^ Chris - Here's pics of the 'carb tune' that I built. Get larger diameter than the 1/4" or whatever size I used*. You should be able to see from the pics where I attached mine on the 83 650 carbs. Not sure how different your 750 will be. You need to remove set screws out of three intake tubes and replace them with the 'booster' connectors. Carb #2 already has a vac. port for opening the fuel petcock. *To size mine tubes, I picked up the vac. ports (they called it a 'Booster" when I bought the extra three to balance all the carbs). I brought the "booster" into the hardware store and got the tubing that fit snug, and some larger tubing that fit snugly over the small tubing. I should have stepped it up one or two more sizes, to like 1/2 inch or something. I would also suggest heavier oil like 90W gear oil. I couldn't get the bike to run for more than about 7 seconds before one of the tubes would fill up all the way and start trying to pull down into the intake. One a 650, one cylinder pulls approx. 162.5cc's of air, and my tiny tubes can't handle it. They would foam up from churning up and down, and one tube would drain down into the other three tubes (for the cylinder with the least amount of vac). You guys can go ahead and feel jealous of my mad skills with zip ties. :) You can see the join where I stepped up the tube size in this pic. I need to rebuild this with even larger tubes for bigger capacity. In this pic you can see the vac. guage that I used to hold the fuel petcock open, and you can see how I joined the tubes at the bottom: Hope that helps!! - JO On Mar 15, 2011, at 3:39 PM, Gene Henry wrote: Topic: Made a new purchase for my bike today Paul <[email protected]> Mar 15 03:39PM -0600 ^ *Ordered something for my bike that I've wanted for a long time...passenger floorboards.* * * *I really dislike driver floorboards, but the ones for the passenger are very cool and I think more comfortable for them. I've got the primer painted on the plastics and I'm just waiting for it to warm up a bit to shoot the color. My wife will probably kill me if I use the garage as a paint booth so I have a temporary one set up in the carport. Planned on priming the tank last weekend but I got sidetracked doing a liner on it.
