First of all Graham, the sounds like a good starting point for the price.

Secondly, I have an actual full Honda Service Manual for the GL1100 (covering both the Naked Wings as well as the full-dressers) and it does not appear that you have to remove the rear luggage to remove the rear wheel. Obviously it might make things easier, BUT it doesn't appear to be mandatory.

I would be happy to send you step-by-step instructions if it would be helpful.
