Usually noise from the bottom of the engine indicates rods or mains being lose
and I could not tell you anything about a possible counterbalance because I am
not tht familiar with the construction of the engine to say.  Noise from the
cam
chain has  rhythm different from the revolutions of the crankshaft, because the
chain is crankshaft driven, and the noise usually has to do with worn guides
and/or stretched chain.
Is it possible that the noise isn't exactly from the bottom of the engine?

Have you taken it to another mechanic for a second opinion?
