Well, I'd swear both wheels look the same.  (But I'm writing the from
work.)  On the right side, there's a long (1"?) collar on the axle
that keeps things in place, but what kind of spacer is there on the
left?

Is it something that sits between the speedometer gear the the wheel,
or between the speedometer gear and the fork?  Can you describe it?
I also don't see it in the schematics.
