Hello All,
I set out today to put some miles on the GS-1000 and set a mileage
record. Well - in short - I did it. I've got to double check the odometer -
but - I'm almost certain this makes a 1,000 mile week. 450 Miles today
alone.
Here's the route:

(Using Google Maps this time to prevent Kyle and Javier from
yelling at me :-))
I struck North Today - going North into a region of the state that
I rarely go to and some towns that I haven't been in for literally years.
Here are some photos:

First one is sort of obvious - The 1000 at the Welcome to Van Buren
sign.
Second - This is the view from my seat - although at a weird angle
since I was off the bike when the photograph was taken. Garmin Nuvi 205 GPS
mounted over the tach - and a Sandisk Sansa Clip MP3 player on the Clutch
pull. This is actually a small story in and of itself - I bought a pair of
Sony Earbuds that are very very good at cancelling noise. With the Sansa
between 60 and 100% volume - I can hear music or my audiobooks as required.
Speaking of which - the one I'm reading (listening yeah yeah) right now,
Footfall by Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven, has a character that rides a
1983 Kawasaki LTD 750.
Third picture is of yours truly - tomorrow it will be 7 days since
I've shaved - Vacation and all :-)
Fourth shot - the Welcome to Madawaska sign - billed as the most
Northeastern town in the US. For those that have been around Harleys much -
I rode through Caribou, ME, home of Plourde and Plourde a Harley Davidson
dealer that is billed as one of the 'Four Corners Of Harley Davidson'.
Fifth shot - this is my other hobby - Railroads and such - this is
the Museum, literally feet from US 1, located in Frenchville.
Sixth shot - Although still very far from home - I'm headed South
through Ashland - a very nice town.
Here is a recommendation - this route would make, with some
additions, an excellent two day excursion - ME 11 is one of the more scenic
state routes and you can follow it for a considerable distance. The longest
stretch I went without a gas station that sold Premium was about 45 miles.
Ok - if you haven't already stopped reading because of boredom or
me droning on - heres the good part. Remember a while back we had a thread
about the Hyosung Motorcycles and I discovered a dealer in Maine? Well guess
what - I went by it today and stopped in.

The first bike is the 30th anniversary limited edition 700 CC
model - I absolutely love the sticker he had on the front.
The next three bikes are classics that I'm sure Graham has at
least one of :-)
The Next bike is a 500cc Honda 4 - Police special - looked like it
was in great shape.
The next bike is a 250 Hyosung.
The next - two shots - are of the new 700cc model being built in
Italy. I believe they call it the 7.
Next two shots are of a Fuel injected 250 that I actually swung a
leg over. Its deceptive - looks taller than it is - I was able to Flat foot
it and then some with absolutely no effort.
The last bike - two shots - is one of the Hyosung 650s - and Jerry
(the owner of the shop) demonstrating the relaxed riding position. Jerry was
taller than I - but not exceedingly tall - I would estimate between 5' 10"
and 6'.
Now they claim they are getting 90 HP out of the 700cc models, 82
out of the 650s and 32 out of the 250s. To put that in perspective - the
GS-1000 I'm riding produces 90 HP and the 450 Nighthawk I still have
produces 33. (Those are the fuel injected numbers I believe)
I didn't take one for a test ride - it wasn't offered and since I
wasn't a serious buyer I didn't ask, I wish I had now - but - the fit and
finish of the bikes is top notch. No parts hanging off - no obvious cosmetic
blemishes and the fuel injected 250 fired up after several weeks of being
static with little complaint. Personally - if I was looking for a new bike
and I wasn't terribly concerned about brand - I'd actually consider one of
these. I was impressed. Apparently they have generated a fair amount of
interest - according to Jerry about twice a month some group of riders shows
up to look at them.
Anyway - thats all for now - Ride Safe everyone!
