Not sure what I was doing wrong, as I believe I did everything the same as before???...Thanks for the help! Joe Topic: oil light stays on I am stumped "Mt.-n-Man Chia Bar" <[email protected]> Jun 18 08:07PM -0700 ^ Hi, I am new to this club. I have a 85 cb700sc. I had a bad bearing so i found a parts bike that ran with no problems. I put the motor in the registered bike and after runing for about a min. the oil light came on. I thought that it might be the oil sending unit chaged it then maybe the pump changed it, changed the pick up filter and the presure relief valve. I still have the oil presure light on after all that work any suggestion as to what to do next? Could it be the wire from the oil sending unit? Or the filter which is new? Thank you bfor your help Brian "Mt.-n-Man Chia Bar" <[email protected]> Jun 18 10:01PM -0700 ^ I have also put in a new filter and now have checked the wires and they are fine. what is next?????????? James O'Gorman <[email protected]> Jun 18 10:40PM -0700 ^ You could tell people that the light is the 'has oil' light instead of 'no oil pressure' ;) I believe that an oil pressure sending unit functions the same as a fuel sending unit - a different reading will result in different resistance to ground. The gauge (or idiot light) reads this resistance and displays a corresponding value. You should be able to test a few things - try unhooking the wire from the sending unit and grounding it to see what happens with the light. This should work with the key in, engine off. Here is a write up I found about one type of oil pressure sending unit (3-wire): http://www.racepak.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=801 Here is a quick write up about a one-wire sending unit: http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=746600 Once you know what type you've got, you should be able to 'bench' test each component separately. It sounds like you've already done a lot of work on this. There is always a chance the 'new' sending unit is bad, or that a wire is grounded out causing the light to think zero pressure, but it may also be a blocked oil passage in the block. Soo... you're sure that the oil is flowing, right? I'd imagine you'd know within about five minutes if the motor stops running. You should be able to run it with the valve cover off, and see the oil flow. (although your bike may be different than my 350). Good luck and keep us updated! - JO On Jun 18, 2011, at 10:01 PM, Mt.-n-Man Chia Bar wrote: Topic: Parts needed for '93 Nighthawk 750 Puppytrainer <[email protected]> Jun 18 03:41PM -0700 ^ Aloha, Nighthawk Lovers... New to list...need a bit of help locating a couple of parts for my '93 750... Tachometer (or full instrument cluster) Rear tail assembly (+tail light cluster) Seat (in good condition!) Center stand Many thanks and aloha breezes to you, DJ on Maui <[email protected]> surfswab <[email protected]> Jun 18 09:51PM -0700 ^ Assuming you're looking for used parts, get used to electronic dumpster-diving (Google, ebay and craigslist, basically). That's how we do it. There's another Hawaiian here, too...Hawaii Sean...who, as I recall has some parts, but I don't remember what he has. He's also on Maui, IIRC. Of the parts you list, the only one I know of that's reasonably priced new is the centerstand. Available at: http://www.monmouthcycles.com (New Jersey) for $111 + s/h. The rest, if purchased new, would probly cost more than the bike is worth. Topic: longest rides bobby <[email protected]> Jun 18 09:29PM -0700 ^ I have a spitfire already. At my height the wind hits me at the bottom of my helmet. National cycle has one that is 7 inches taller. I am considering putting that on. I hope that will cut the wind noise some. I'm going to ride to Columbus, OH and back tomorrow to test myself. bobby <[email protected]> Jun 18 09:37PM -0700 ^ Anyone have one of these? If, do you like it? http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/N8863?mv_session_id=NbLYACSk&search_model=hd%2d022%22 Thanks Bobby Topic: rack 750 nighthawk US import 1992 Hawaii Sean <[email protected]> Jun 18 05:20PM -0700 ^ This comes up often - also available on eBay. Plus a rack that one member helped design at www.bestemusa.com. I have th installation instructions for when you find a rack. If I knew how I'd load the instructions up on this site for everyone. If you need the instructions just send me a note. Aloha - Sean Javier Garcia <[email protected]> Jun 18 10:01PM -0400 ^ Yes, I remember that, but how do I know if that rack will work with the givi cases? are all those things standard? Javier.
