The 250 is a good starter bike that, as you note, is favored by riding
schools.
They're relatively simple in design, lightweight, maneuverable and
less intimidating for new riders, who will probly not go any faster
than 30 mph on a closed training course.

That said, I would recommend that you take one of those courses (and
in the process, learn to ride one of those 250s), then make your
decision whether to buy a larger bike.

It sounds like you've got "the bug."  Nuthin' wrong with that -- we've
all been there -- except that if not well thought out, you might make
an impulse purchase that you may regret later.

An alternative plan, if you've got the bucks, buy the 250 and learn to
ride it.  When your skills progress to the point that the bike seems
inadequate, sell/trade for the bigger one.

I'm curious though, what is it that makes the 250/750 an either/or
proposition.  What is it about the Shadow 750, in particular, that you
like?
