I always use my kill switch to turn off the bike. When I took the
Motorcycle Safety Course here in PA they instructed us that it is the
preferable way to turn off the engine, for one you don't have to let
go of the handlebars to turn it off but more importantly it keeps the
kill switch contacts in use leaving them less susceptible to
unreliability from corrosion. This spring I had to disassemble my
wife's kill because an earwig made a home between the switch contacts
when storing it over the winter and she was having trouble with the
bike starting reliably, after I cleared out the dead bug she hasn't
had a problem since.
