Amazing that you found the cover. I once had a large sailboat hatch slider
blow off while trailering. Spent hours looking and never found it. With a
little minor engineering you can use brass round-top screws (the kind that
were used to secure cabinet doors in spring receptacles) to replace the
shorn tits. A carefully drilled hole, a bit of epoxy and it should snap in
place. Ace Hardware may still have them. Failing that, a little double-sided
tape might work.
