I had a similar problem with my 96 750.  Low beam went out and right
running light / turn signal went intermittent.  Turned out to be the
bulb low beam was burnt out and a short in the headlight bucket for
the running light / turn signal.  I think the short caused the low
beam to burn out.  I also noticed that the bike started running and
starting better once I fixed the short.
