A lot of times they don't realize that the part/labor are out of warranty.
I can't speak for Honda, but I had a Subaru Forrester once, it was about 4
1/2 years old, and had 70K miles on it. One of the cats went, and the CEL
came on. Took it into the dealer I bought the car from, and he told me the
cat had to be replaced, and I'd have to pay. After talking to my brother
(a Subaru mechanic), I mentioned to the service manager at my dealership
that I thought the cat was covered for 5 years/80K miles. Well, he looked
it up, and confirmed I was right. So, they did the work under warranty.
If I hadn't said anything, they would have charged me for the parts/labor.
