I'm not sure if there is a disadvantage to the ComStar wheels that came on
my '82 450, but I kind of like them for their uniqueness, so I don't think
you necessarily need to change wheels unless you don't like them. I found
the bike very easy to work on so I would definitely recommend it for that
reason as well. I'll probably change the sprockets at some point to have a
little higher cruising speed, but overall I've really liked the bike for
the 150 miles or so I've put on it so far. Choke when the engine is cold
is definitely necessary for me as well, and seems normal, although I still
need a new pilot needle as the right cylinder is definitely running rich
(dark spark plug) while I think the left spark plug is pretty well tuned
(tan spark plug) so I wouldn't blame needing choke just on a lean
condition. It seems to just be a normal requirement for many carbureted
motors. I find it doesn't bother me as I just start the bike with the
choke on, then put on my gear, then when I've got my jacket, helmet and
gloves on I'm able to turn the choke off and ride. I don't need to use the
choke if the bike has been parked in the sun, like when I'm riding to lunch
or home at the end of the day. It's just getting the bike out of the
garage in the morning that it needs choke.
