Probably thought it was "artistic" or some such. I wouldn't consider $900 to be "Excessive" if it really is in as nice a condition as he says AND has those new and spare parts. Got to consider, new tire is ~$80+, Battery $30-45+, brake pads 2x$25+, Chain/sprockets $80+... That alone is almost $300, making it a ~$600 bike.
