My first career, I was a journeyman toolmaker.  I know about metals.  The
gas tank can be repaired with holes.  I would drain it, clean the tank with
soapy water.  Clean it again. Clean it again.   Test it to make sure there
are absolutely no fumes in it.  Have it sandblasted. Inset the holes
slightly so there is a little room for weld. Rinse it again.  Take it to a
professional welder. Professional welders know all the correct welding
techniques.  Then you can grind / sand it down smooth and bondo if needed.

1982 450cc knighthawk.....Tank's got a dent and it looks like JB Weld has
been used in a couple of punctures......Need some "How To" advise....Also I
look to repaint with hunter green....Buddy of mine said green be a bad
taboo...Don't need anymore bad luck
