They use the shotgun approach in California -- sue everybody who had anything to do with the "issue," then see what sticks.
My guess is they're not even going for a win, but a fat cash settlement, and BMW has deeper pockets than Corbin. Unfortunately, too often companies settle because it's cheaper than fielding an army of defense lawyers for a court fight. That's why you hear politicians hollering for tort reform (loser pays) to make frivolous suits less attractive to ambulance chasers. I'd like to see a defense lawyer go for habeus corpus -- that is, drop trou and show the evidence in the courtroom in front of God and everybody (!) Tee hee...smirk...case dismissed.
