There were over 26,000 dead deer “removed from roads” in Wisconsin in 2010.
That does not include the ones that were hit and managed to get off the road
and were unreported. There is little belief here in “deer whistles” as
offering safety, although some improvement is claimed. They are seldom on
police/sheriff cars. To add to our problems, the DO Transportation no longer
keeps most road ditches clear of vegetation, so visibility adds to the risk.
Gotta’ slow down, especially in November/December (mating) and May/June when
the yearlings are pushed out by newborn. Life is more important than
time/testosterone! If you can’t stop in the distance you can see clearly,
you’re going too fast! Note: not limited to deer. Ride safely, avoid the deer
and come home to the dear!

Deer Whistles are a personal choice. I hear a lot a anticdotal opinions, such
as they did not work for me. Were your headlights blinding them? Were you
going 90 miles an hour, and 70 on a back road as in the video? Were they on a
major highway where the road roars with sound from the cars? Certainly they
don't work in all situations. Here is a study done by the Business Research
Group here in Iowa. http://deerwhistle.com/Test_20Model_20No_209.pdf
I don't think anyone thinks they work all the time, but they only have to work
once to save a bunch of pain. Their best working situation is at night on a
secondary road. I would not bother with them if I only rode in the city during
the day.

Personally I can't believe that they work at all. Deer have excellent
hearing, and if I can hear a car/bike coming down the road so can they.

It depends on the tune they play. Deer prefer Ragtime Jazz and will run to
the source of such music so you want to make sure you don't pick up any of
those whistles.

Kyle they should have better deer driver education. And Allen, Ya, I saw
that too and wondered what that patch was. The one rider said, it told you to
watch out for deer. I think the speed was more of a factor! I think I am
going to put some deer whistles on my ST. They can be hidden under the fairing
before my next long trip at the end of June.

That patch on his arm looks like a cop badge.
