I've had a CDL most of my adult life (retired trucker) and motorcycle
endorsement even longer.

If he's that stubborn, you probly won't convince him. But you might
try mentioning that if he ever gets stopped on the bike and ticketed,
it will show up on his CDL driving record, as does any violation, in
any vehicle. That's a fairly new development in the last few years.

That means explaining the violation to anyone who's interested (safety
director, new employer, etc) whenever his safety rating is reviewed.
It's a bigger deal now than it used to be.
