Slow down to 65 and your mileage will go up, you'll get less fatigued as well. 
I can't imagine putting in an almost 600 mile day, that's one sore butt I bet.

Ok, so here is brief update: logged 536 miles the first day, from Carson, 
CA to Tucson, AZ. Left at 5am, ride to San Diego was cool, no problems. 
Heading East from San Diego is when the sun came out and it was hot and 
windy!!!! The I probably have about 60-70lbs of stuff, but the bike was 
running well. Avg speed about 75, but I think the strong headwinds are 
really doing a number on my gas mileage. Day 2 I'm starting out for El 
Paso, TX. I'm in Deming, NM right now. Still riding into strong winds, a 
quick spot check from the last two gas stops, show 36mpg and 30mpg. :(
