If the light is flickering, that means one of two things.

Thing number one: Your oil pressure is low. This could be because you have
too little oil and the pump is sucking some air, or it could be the result
of pressure leaks, or it could mean that your oil pump is worn out.

Thing number two: Your sensor, or the wiring to the light from the sensor,
is bad. The sensor is frequently just a simple mechanical switch on the
ground path of an electric circuit; so long as X amount of pressure
overcomes spring pressure, the switch is closed and your path complete, no
light.

On a bike of that one's age, neither thing can be ruled out at the start;
oil pump or electrical.

You can eliminate thing one by attaching a manual pressure gauge at the
idiot light port and directly measuring the pressure; if it's within spec,
look to electronics. If it is not within spec, you must begin
troubleshooting the pressure system.

You're still crazy. :p
