Hard to say. The prototype Goldwing (circa 1972) was a 6 cylinder, but was toned down considerably by the time it made its production debut in late '74.
Took Honda a long time to work it back up to 6, with mixed results (think Valkyrie and Rune), before they settled on it with the latest Wing. I'm thinking U.S. riders are a pretty fickle lot when it comes to new models. The rest of the world is more willing to lay out cold cash for Honda's latest greatest than we are, seems like.
