I'm the wrong person to answer this because I've never touched a 90s 750, but the neutral switch on the 80s bikes is just a radial switch and shouldn't be able to interfere with shifting. Finding neutral should be as easy as shifting down to 1st, then half a shift up, and see if you can spin back tire.
