I don't know why I can't let this go. $72 is still not that bad. Their point of charging the extra $20, I take that as a smack down. It's meant to punish and insult you for being concerned about the $. They certainly have a right to be paid for their services, but insults are not the way to inspire loyal customers. However if they had that tire I wanted in stock, that would be a different thing. Because I would be willing to pay for the convenience. That's the way it used to be! But now they want the prices/profits/charges of the old days, without supplying the service or convenience. I've been to my Honda dealer here a number of times and they do not have even the basic of parts or metric screws. The screw store down the street has more metrics than they do. I would have been willing to pay much more than internet prices if they just had the blasted thing in stock so I could get the bike running. The whole dealer thing is messed up IMHO. I think that shops today are trying very hard not to become boutiques that show things but never sell things - in the case of helmets and other gear - or places that just install things with no margin on the parts. Unfortunately - I think that this is just bucking a trend. Small shops are going to have to start selling parts on either 0 or close to it margin to compete with direct purchasing warehouses. Otherwise, they will be in the position of being significantly higher priced than say a dealer that works through their manufacturer's discount plans. As a result, people will start to go elsewhere. It's a half hour job. That's $92 / hour. But that is not enough money for us so we'll slap on another 20 buck fee. Suppose Eye Masters said, since you did not get your prescription here, there is a $20 fee? My '82 GL1100 has one of those 80 mph speedos and I can assure you it will go much faster.
