I'm thinking that the battery has a problem. When I turn the key it drops down to 3 volts from 12.6V static. Currently it is removed from the bike and on a charger, I'll see what happens once it has a full charge.
So I tested Ohms of the three cables attached to the battery to look for shorts. battery tender hookup = infinity (good) Regulator/Rectifyer = 5.6 M ohm if my math is correct this is a really small number of amps of static draw (0.00000241 Amp or .00003 Watts) ignition switch to ground: key in off position = infinity (excellent) key in on position = 1.9 Ohm If my math is correct (Volts/Ohms = Amps) this should generate a 7.1 amp draw @ 13.5V and 7,5 amp draw while running at 14.36V. So that should be well within the capabillities of the stator. So from what I can tell that as long as the system is charging there doesn't appear to be any issues with the bikes wireing. The only other test I can think of would be to stick an Amp meter between the R/R +lead and the + battery terminal to make sure it is pumping at least 7.5 amps. Can anyone else think of another test, besides taking the battery to a shop to have it load tested? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
