You have to lower both ends equally to not affect handling. Lowering the forks in the triple trees will speed up turn in and make the bike want to fall into a turn. Conversely lowering the rear makes the bike harder to steer and want to stand up in turns. If you have your front and rear height adjusted properly it will turn in easily, and you could let go of the bars in a turn and the bike would remain stable. I suggest getting riding boots with thick soles before modifying the bike, if that will do the trick. Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T

Congrats on buying your first bike! I would echo the sentiments already mentioned - the front forks (the big tubes that hold the front tire to the rest of the bike) can be lowered however, it is in general not done in favor of lowering the rear instead. Suzuki made an entire line of bikes in the 80s with an L after the model number for Low and basically all they did was to re-work the rear suspension and change the seat for a lower one. If you're entirely too short for the bike - as in we're talking inches too short - it might be better to consider a different bike than to try to re-work the suspension on this one. If we're talking about a small adjustment - that should be doable with the rear suspension and perhaps a modified seat.
