Thank you,

Would take less than the quoted price - particularly to a NightHawker :-)

If you weren't the whole eastern seaboard away, I'd come get it just to play

Yeah thats the part I never quite manage to grasp. Have reduced the price on CL

get it and won't chop it up.

Agreed. The only benefits of repairs on resale is to improve the general
condition and move it up a grade.
Can't expect to get the money back, especially from wearable parts like brakes
and tires.

You never get back the money you put into repairs. That's just the cost of

I bought it for $1500 - then put over $800 into a carb rebuild that I had done
- I had the rear braking system completely rebuilt and I put a total of three
new tires on it - one of which was because someone put the wrong size on it the
first time. Plus the Dyna S - which I installed myself. In addition to that I
had brake pads done all the way around and fixed that weird electrical issue in
the fairing. I have about $1200 of work I can document that was done to it,
plus the time I spent working on it. I though I'd start at $3k and work down -
obviously I was mistaken.

What did you spend $1500 on?? I know you put a dyna S on it, but they are under

All,
Originally I had it up for $3000 - figuring that was what I had in it
more or less.
Its currently up for $1500 and one person has looked at it. He informed
me that it was worth about $800. He also informed me that the Fairing and Bags
are not helping the value in his mind, as the first thing he would do with it
was to strip all of that off.
Its burning oil - quite a bit of oil - about a half quart every 300
miles at last check so that means she needs rings. Then of course you might as
well do the valves when you're in there, check the cylinders, etc etc. While
you've got the top end of the engine apart, you might want to do the bottom end
too, so one could easily start an entire engine rebuild.
I hate to say it, but I think I'm going to have to admit defeat on
this one and let her go cheap.
The same guy who said it was probably worth $800 said he would give
me $400 cash for it, but I am thinking he was low balling.
Anyone interested in a nice original project?

All,
As most if not all of you know, I retired my 1978 Suzuki GS-1000 when
I bought my new bike last fall. As a result, I'm sitting on a 1978 Suzuki that
has failed to get any serious bites from people on Craigslist. Its sitting in
my shed and I'm at the point where I would like to get it sold rather than have
it continue to sit.
So here is the question - what is a 1978 Suzuki GS-1000 worth? Its the
first year of production, electronic ignition kit installed, Windjammer SS
fairing and matching Vetter bags, has approximately 58,000 miles on it and it
was running at the end of last years motorcycle season up here in Maine.
The thing I don't want is to sell it to someone who is going to part
it out or chop it up. Its too nice and its been around for too long to do that
to it. I bought it for $1500, ran it for 10,000 miles over two seasons, put a
total of three tires on it, back brakes were rebuilt, rotor replaced etc, carbs
cleaned by a bike shop last spring.
         Thoughts?
