That's correct. All backrest/sissy bars for the 750, including the aftermarkets, require inch-and-a-half notches be cut into the sides of the rear cowl to accommodate the bar's built-in mounting brackets. Once installed, though, the brackets cover the holes, so they're not visible so long as the sissy bar is in place. The only aftermarket product I know of that doesn't is the Ventura-Bike luggage system. It has a sort of sissy bar, but it's designed for luggage securement and they caution against using it as a passenger backrest. http://www.ventura-bike.com
