Today I cleaned the jets in a 1985 Nighthawk 650. After sitting for so long the
bike didn't idle right and stumbled through till about 3000 rpms. I've cleaned
carbs on Nighthawks many times. It's nearly always a pain getting them on and
off the bike - specially the 700S. Today I did it different. Had them done in
1 hour - all 4 carbs by using small 'special' screw drivers removing the bowls
and jets and cleaning them, reinstalling them with out removing the carbs. Not
enough room to do it on the 700S but on the 650 I was able to get my hands in
there without too much trouble. Of course this only works if the carbs don't
need an overhaul or real cleaning. I knew these carbs were clean and just
needed the slow speeds to be cleaned. It worked. Graham
