Just thought of another unlikely.  The "BMW" Steve McQueen rode in The 
Great Escape was actually a Triumph 650 made to look like a German WWII 
era Beemer. 
 
Apparently McQueen wasn't too keen on doing the role, so the studio did 
that as an enticement.  He was a Triumph afficianado, owned a rode several 
of them.
 
And the famous jump over the barbed wire was not his.  A stunt man did it.
