Paul, are you sure about the availability of plexiglass fairings/windshields in the 80s? I put a plexiglass windshield on my bike in 1984. I sold it when I bought a bike with a Windjammer in 1985. It took me a while to get used to the fact that my headlight no longer moved when I turned the front wheel. However, there was so little wind buffeting that I routinely rode it wearing a ball cap, and the cap never blew off. The fact that I never should have been riding wearing just a cap notwithstanding, it was pretty darned nice that I could.
In 1986 I moved to Japan and spent the next 23 years there. When I moved here and looked to buy a bike, I naturally looked to buy one with a Windjammer. Rip Van EGrider got a big surprise that Mr. Vetter's company was long gone! I guess it won't surprise anybody that I currently have a National Cycle Plexifairing 3 on my Nighthawk.
