I'm 6'3" and had a 82 650 and have been riding a 96 750 every day for 7
years now. For comfort I'd like 2 to 3 more inches of height on the bike.
I have a Corbin saddle that lowers me about that much. I'm thinking about
getting it rebuilt and add a couple of inches but it's not that much of a
bother.

I rode a friends band new KTM 990. It's a super tall bike but I was
surprised that the riding position was almost exactly the same as my 96
750. I have also ridden a VStrom, aside from the fact that I didn't like
the ride it really didn't give me that much more room.

personnal opinion: most bike will fit preaty much the same within a type -
Cruiser, Tweener (NightHawk), Dual Sport, etc They have to buld the bikes
to fit the "average" person. Whatever that is. Once he has his license
I'd see what bikes are available to rent near you. Have him ride for a day
on a Dual Sport, on your Night Hawk and anything else he can rent. It will
be obvious to him what will work once he ride a couple.
