Sitting for a long time and gas goes through the carbs into the crankcase. I had a suzuki gs550 that had a crankcase full of gas and oil. It had been sitting for years. I actually started the bike before realizing it, quickly shut it off. The sound of the engine gave it away. No harm done and bike ran great for years and years.
