Yes you do. I don't know the specs for your bike but it is a hall effect
sensor, so basically you will get spikes of voltage as the engine cranks.
There will be two sensors one for each coil pack, so as long as both of
them make a pulse of roughly equal value then they should be working.
Whether timing is correct that is another matter but usually the plates are
not adjustable. The ignighter unit/s handle spark advance for you, and are
what signal the coils to fire.
