This car has and will have the same problem that all the "new" hybrid and
hi-millage cars have. Unless you drive a ton of miles a year - If you do
the math you should just buy a used car for $5,000 and flip it in a couple
of years. My 1991 Volvo wagon gets an average of 29 mpg in Honolulu. When
it was on the mainland it would get close to 40 on the highway. If you
want something better look at the smaller SUV's. My Ford Escape gets in
the mid 20's for gas millage and I paid $2,500 for it.

Easy math:
20,000 a year / 20MPG = 1,000 gallons of gas a year X $5 per gallon =
$5,000
20,000 a year / 80MPG = 250 gallons of gas a year X $5 per gallon = $1,250

So the difference between this car at 80mpg and my 1991 Volvo wagon is
$3,750. 3 year RIO on a $10,000 car assuming everything else is the same
(insurance, maintenance, etc). The only time it makes sense to buy a
hybrid is when you've decided you need / want a new car. Other than that
the math doesn't work.

This is of coming from a guy who rides an 18 year old motorcycle and drives
a 23 year old car. I love to look at other peoples holes in the ground
that they throw money into. I'd rather spend my money on other things.
