Is that a surface mount screw? Maybe it needs a washer. If that thing does fall out later, it could wreck your engine big time, the head, cylinder, and engine. Do you feel lucky? I think you were real lucky by it being stuck to the piston head (and you haven't really put any miles on it!)
At least pry that sucker off, get out of your engine, and send it in an envelope to the PO for good luck.
