First run a can of Seafoam (Advance Auto or somewhere) through it. There is a post on here where synching was being discussed and how to make the tool to do it. Look for that, I don't remember where it was.
Finally, you may have to take them apart and clean/rebuild the carbs. Certainly sounds like a carb issues, but you may also want to replace the plugs with the right ones.
