My (very naive) opinion is that different bikes behave a bit differently on
how do they start, regardless of how clean the carbs can be. However,
getting your carbs service and clean does not hurt at all! But if you use
your bike regularly, I wouldn't expect the carbs to be very gummed up. I
also doubt that syncing the carbs will have any effect on how it starts.
Other things that can be important are the spark plugs (if they are very
old), and the starter engine itself (if it is not turning as fast as it
should). Being your bike a 2003 I wouldn't think the starter engine needs
to be serviced. I would go with the simpler stuff: keep running some
seafoam on a few more tanks, and maybe replace the spark plugs.
