Any fuel rated line will work.  As long as there is no kinks.  But again I'd 
take the filter out.  Unless your tank is bad there isn't a need for one; if 
your tank is bad it's best to clean it.  

I lean towards filter causing restriction and starter drawing too much currant 
when heat soaked.
