Leaks around the valve cover particularilly at the cam half moons is common on bikes. Also on older bikes leaks at the countershaft sprocket are not uncommon. A bit of smoke at startup is usually old hard valve stem seals allowing some oil to leach past them, not a big deal. As long as your leak isn't coming from the bottom of the cylinders or the head gasket a fix is easy.
