I changed mine about a year ago leaking oil. I replaced the four plugs too because they had turned hard. I used a heat resistant gasket sealer on the plug (but not the top) I used gasgacinch on both sides of the new gasket (not too much) you don't want excess inside the cover. No more oil leak. Although I have 83 CB650SC I assume it is very similar.
